History

Ten Story Lovers came together in August 1995 for the organizational meeting of what would come to be known far and wide as the Asheville Storytelling Circle.

Every year since 1996, ASC has presented one of the most successful TELLABRATION!s™ in the world with capacity audiences prior to 2019 of 330 now limited to 250 since Covid. TELLABRATION!™ is co-hosted by the Southern Highlands Craft Guild and staged at the Folk Art Center on Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville.

In 2005 ASC helped sponsor a Story Tsunami benefit concert which raised over $8,000 for American Red Cross disaster relief efforts in Indonesia after the December 2004 Tsunami. ASC has also presented a number of fund raising benefits for other charitable causes.

ASC tellers perform at dozens of festivals ranging from local to national, as well as for schools, libraries, Elderhostels, conferences, congregations and civic organizations.

ASC members come from diverse backgrounds: chemist, librarian, retired college president, puppeteer, housewife, radio personality, publicist, actor, comedian, and social worker. Some members come only to listen . . . others to hone their craft telling stories which run the gamut of topics, styles, and origins

ASC is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
